Obituary for Jere Popow

Jere Popow, age 60, of Wappingers Falls. New York passed away Friday, February 28, 2020.
Jere was born October 2, 1959 in Hudson, NY to the late Eva and John Popow. At a young age, he relocated with his family to Park St. in Wappingers Falls where he along with those who went on to be lifelong friends spent countless hours in their youth making memories at “Poe’s Wall”. He graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School with the class of 1978. On May 24, 1987, surrounded by family and those same lifelong friends, he married the love of his life, Chris Ruta. He pursued his higher education through the UA Local 201’s apprenticeship program where he learned to love his work, enabling him to provide a wonderful life for his family. He proudly continued his career as a steamfitter with UA Local 21 until his retirement in 2013. Since retiring he remained active by tinkering around the house and lending a hand to any in need of his expertise. His creative and effective repairs are affectionately known by many to be “Jere Rigged”.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Ruta-Popow; his son, Matthew Popow; his daughter, Sara Popow; his mother and father-in-law, Helen and Aldo Ruta; his sister, Jan Cassidy; his nephews, Richard John Keller, Jon Michael Popow, Ian Robinson, and Alex Robinson; his nieces Ryanne Robinson, Susan Popow, Kim Popow Lazar and Jordan Keller.
