Obituary

Jere Popow, age 60, of Wappingers Falls. New York passed away Friday, February 28, 2020.
Jere was born October 2, 1959 in Hudson, NY to the late Eva and John Popow. At a young age, he relocated with his family to Park St. in Wappingers Falls where he along with those who went on to be lifelong friends spent countless hours in their youth making memories at “Poe’s Wall”. He graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School with the class of 1978. On May 24, 1987, surrounded by family and those same lifelong friends, he married the love of his life, Chris Ruta. He pursued his higher education through the UA Local 201’s apprenticeship program where he learned to love his work, enabling him to provide a wonderful life for his family. He proudly continued his career as a steamfitter with UA Local 21 until his retirement in 2013. Since retiring he remained active by tinkering around the house and lending a hand to any in need of his expertise. His creative and effective repairs are affectionately known by many to be “Jere Rigged”.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Ruta-Popow; his son, Matthew Popow; his daughter, Sara Popow; his mother and father-in-law, Helen and Aldo Ruta; his sister, Jan Cassidy; his nephews, Richard John Keller, Jon Michael Popow, Ian Robinson, and Alex Robinson; his nieces Ryanne Robinson, Susan Popow, Kim Popow Lazar and Jordan Keller.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Jon and Daniel Popow.
Jere is loved by so many, his strength, humor, compassion and overall zest for life has left an imprint on the hearts of all who knew him and he is truly unforgettable. Although he faced a long battle against Rheumatoid Arthritis and several other illnesses he tackled each day with positivity, resilience and a huge smile, inspiring all those around him. Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Friday from 5 to 8 PM. Services will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Rhuematoid Arthritis Foundation at www.helpfightra.org/donations,or Rhumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 8815 Conroy Windermere Rd., Suite 309, Orlando, Fla. 32835 in memory of Jere Popow.
