Obituary

Irene Toth McGayhey, age 94, a sixty year area resident passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 2nd in her daughter Susan’s home following an illness. Mrs. McGayhey was born at home in South Lansing New York on May 19, 1924. She was the second daughter of Anthony and Susi Vasril Toth. She was a graduate of Ludlowville High School in Ludlowville, New York.
She was pre-deceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert E McGayhey,Sr, her daughter-in-law, Diane McGayhey, and a grandson Daniel McGayhey. Surviving are two sons, Robert Eugene McGayhey, Jr. and his wife Sheila of LaGrange and David McGayhey of Poughkeepsie, two daughters, Karen McGayhey and husband Donald DePalma of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and Susan McGayhey of Islip, N.Y. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Melissa Poppo, Mary Cavallaro, and Joseph McGayhey and Rachel and Kevin DePalma, five great-grandchildren Natalee and Nicholas Cavallaro, Noah and Zachary Poppo, and Ellie McGayhey, and several nieces and nephews.
Irene was a member of St Mary’s, Wappingers Falls and Our Saviour’s of Cocoa Beach, where she has wintered for the last 30 years. She enjoyed her condo community in Florida and loved watching the ocean.
Irene worked during WWII in a factory manufacturing items for the war. Following her 1946 marriage in Ithaca, NY, she worked as a bookkeeper while Robert finished college and worked at IBM. She left work to raise their family. Irene and Bob provided their children with a loving home and a wonderful upbringing with family as the center focus.
Irene will be missed by all who her knew her. She loved to welcome people in her home and spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping, bird watching, and anything in the color red.Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday December 6th, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St. Wappingers Falls.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday, December 7th, at St. Mary's Church, Clinton St., Wappingers Falls.In keeping with her wishes, attendees should wear red to the services as that was her favorite color. Her family wants to celebrate her life and the things that were meaningful to her.In lieu of flowers, the McGayhey family respectfully requests memorial donations to thePulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Eugene, David, Karen, Susie and all the McGayhey Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Irene's passing. She was a wonderful lady, so friendly and always welcomed us into your family. She always had a hug and kiss for me whenever I saw her. We know how much you will all miss her.
