Manhattan Project Veteran,
509th Composite Group

Anthony Joseph Sorci, a resident of Fishkill,N.Y. passed into Heaven, on March 25,2020.
He was born at home, in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. on January 25,1924
to Giacomo (Jack) and Josephine Cuchelo Sorci. Born at midnight, he claimed both the 24th and the 25th as his birthday. Anthony attended Wappingers' schools and then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps.
During WWII, he served in The 509th 1st Atomic Bomb Group, 320th Trooper Carrier Squadron. The 509th Composite Group was awarded The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor.
At Dutchess County's 8th Annual Veterans' Appreciation Day, held on November 2,2013,
at the F.D.R. site, in Hyde Park, Anthony received six ribbons for his contribution to his squadron in the Pacific Theater, along with a plaque from the County of Dutchess,
a Certificate of Recognition, a Congressional memorial medallion,
along with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for Military Service to America
and for advancing the universal hope of freedom & liberty for all.
On September 27th, 2014, Anthony was among the many WWII veterans onboard
Hudson Valley Honor Flight (Mission #5) and shared in the honor of being flown
to Washington D.C. and touring The WWII Memorial and several other patriotic sights.
He was a life member of the American Legion (Beacon Post 203)
and once served as the Junior Vice Commander of the VFW Post 1286 (Fishkill.)
Anthony was also a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America, # 144 Castle Point, N.Y.
This first generation American took great pride in his military service and attended every ceremony and parade
with VFW Post 1286 - including selling poppies on Memorial Day.
During his youth (in Wapp. Falls) Anthony was a member of W.T. Garner Engine Co. #1
and became a Life Member of the fire company in 1958.
After his service to our Country, Anthony was employed at the National Biscuit Company, in Beacon , N.Y.
In March of 1944, Anthony married the former L. Vivian Van Tassell.
They had three children and made many wonderful memories.
They divorced in 1973 and Vivian passed on in June of 2012.
Anthony shared his life with his loving companion Lorena Moore until her death in 2011.
He attended church at St. Mary Mother of the Church, in Fishkill N.Y.
Anthony is survived by one son, Richard Earl Sorci and his wife Mary of Fishkill,
their son David Sorci, his wife Rickie, and their children
Isabella and Nicholas of Fishkill;
as well as Richard and Mary's daughter Rebecca Tesan
and her husband Anthony of Wappingers Falls.
Anthony is also survived by his daughter Joanne Vivian Fitzgerald
and her husband Thomas of Beacon.
Other survivors include several cousins, nieces, nephews and Diane Tompkins, of Wallkill, N.Y. ,
who (during these last years,) was a tremendous help in Anthony's care and whom he considered another daughter.
Anthony's biggest heartache was being was predeceased by his oldest and deeply beloved son
Wesley Douglas Sorci in February of 2012.
He was also predeceased by his brothers Salvatore, Paul, James and John, as well as his only sister, Mary Sorci.
